Summary: Enjoy a series of apple-themed activities this half term in celebration of Allantide, a Cornish festival celebrating the ‘first day of winter’ on 31 October. Title: Wheal Martyn Unseen exhibition - The Weird and Wonderful of Wheal Martyn

Summary: A unique chance to see an eclectic showcase of objects and paintings from Wheal Martyn’s collections which are not usually included in our permanent displays.
As a museum, Wheal Martyn is responsible for over 10,000 objects, ranging from photographs and archival materials to clothing, tools, engineering patterns and mining company memorabilia. With far too much to have on public display all the time, this exhibition provides an opportunity to take a glimpse at a varied selection of what we hold and care for, ranging from the inspiring to the unusual!
Additionally, this exhibition will provide insights into the museum's collection policy and explain how items are integrated into a permanent museum collection.

Title: Ceramic Poppy Making Workshop

Summary: Make your own ceramic poppy with coloured slips. No experience necessary, just a willingness to try.
Equipment & materials: Clay and tools are provided.
You will produce: A ceramic creation that will be fired twice and glazed in our electric kiln.
Collection/delivery: Your item will usually be ready within three to four weeks. You can either collect your item from Wheal Martyn or we can post it to you. If you would like it posted please select this option when you book online.
Combine with a visit: If you are not an annual pass holder but would like to combine your workshop with a visit to the museum you can purchase a reduced price admission ticket at the point of booking.
Level: Beginners, from age 4 welcome. Any child under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied at all times by an adult.

Title: Doggie paw printing ceramic gifts and keepsakes

Summary: Make a treasured gift and memory by printing your cherished dog’s foot onto ceramic or into a clay tile. Drop in sessions – no need to pre-book.
More information: We offer a bespoke service to print your dog’s paw print either onto ceramic or into clay. All materials are non-toxic and water soluble and won’t harm your dog.
Time: It takes just 10-15 minutes to do a print, with plenty of treats, attention and praise most dogs are compliant! A paw wash tray and towel will be available afterwards. If your dog has special dietary requirements, please bring some of their own treats. Please note that these sessions are run alongside our pottery workshops so your patience is appreciated at busy times.

Title: Ceramic Painting Workshops (Children’s workshops and adults)

Summary: Go wild with creativity and unleash the artist within as you paint onto ceramic from our earthenware pottery selection, including some Christmas designs in this fun and creative workshop.
Equipment & materials: Earthenware bisque, glazes and equipment provided. You may wish to bring along an apron.
You will produce: A uniquely painted creation, a perfect gift that will be food safe and dishwasher safe. It will be clear glazed and fired in our kiln.

Summary: Enjoy an atmospheric lantern trail at Wheal Martyn. The trail will include lantern making, willow crafting, a campfire and marshmallows, followed by a lantern lit walk around the historic grounds before ending at the Wheal Martyn Café for a festive sing-song!

Title: Wreath-making Workshop

Summary: Join us in this facilitated workshop led by Penny, to make your own hand-made willow wreath for Christmas, decorated with foliage from the historic museum grounds.
Equipment and materials: The willow, foliage and ribbon will be provided. Please bring secateurs and any special decorations or greenery you would like to add to your wreath.
Please note: The willow we will be using will still have its bark on and can stain – please bring an apron or wear appropriate clothes.

You will leave with: A beautiful, natural Christmas willow wreath

Title: Festive Fun Day and Father Christmas

Summary: Dress up in your fun festive finery and explore the museum and woodland trails for a discounted entry fee of £5.00 for adults and £3.00 for children to celebrate the festive season. There will be lots of activities on offer, including wreath-making and clay decorations.
We are incredibly excited that Father Christmas and his elf will be joining us for the day and sharing a special Christmas story! Booking is required for a Father Christmas timeslot at www.wheal-martyn.com and there is a fee of £5.00 per child which includes a small gift from Santa.

Activities will include making Elf and Reindeer crowns and Cornish Christmas cards, getting creative with clay decorations, conjuring up a Christmas wand, being spellbound by a festive story, exploring the Angel and sensory Reindeer Trail, tapping your feet to the tunes of the local band and choir, and popping along to the Christmas craft table! Donations gratefully received.
After all the fun and action, pop in to the café for a festive treat and relax with a cup of something warm and one of our homemade cakes.

Title: As Above, So Below: Jill Randall Solo Exhibition
Date: 13 January – 13 February 2025
Summary: Educated at Falmouth School of Art, Jill Randall’s recent work has focussed on artists’ residencies in industrial settings as the context for new work. She has established innovative ways of interpreting industrial heritage, especially metal-mining, through her practice, demonstrating how contemporary fine art can be a mechanism for cultural regeneration and reengagement. Randall has created work in response to post-mining sites in Wales, Cornwall, and most recently, the old goldfields of Victoria and South Australia.
