Title: Wine & Wisdom Fundraising evening

Summary:           Enjoy a fun evening with friends, family or work colleagues and show off your knowledge, whilst supporting Wheal Martyn Trust to raise funds to support its charitable work, which includes caring for and making the heritage of Cornwall’s china clay mining industry accessible, and providing related educational opportunities within our communities.

Title:      Allantide at Wheal Martyn

Dates: Saturday 19 October to Friday 8 November

Summary: Follow our trail and search out the apples around Wheal Martyn to discover about the history of food and feast days in Cornwall and Cornish language words. Allantide is a Cornish festival celebrating the ‘first day of winter’ on 31st October. Historically, red apples were given to families as a sign of good luck and to celebrate Saint Allan.

Title: ‘People of the Industry’ Breakfast

Summary: Treat yourself to a delicious full Cornish breakfast where you’ll be joined by our knowledgeable volunteers who have worked in the china clay industry, before they lead you on a fascinating guided tour of the historic china clay works at Wheal Martyn.

Title:      Apple-solutely fun Activities

Date:     Monday 28 October to Friday 1 November

Summary: Enjoy a series of apple-themed activities this half term in celebration of Allantide, a Cornish festival celebrating the ‘first day of winter’ on 31 October. Historically, red apples were given to families as a sign of good luck and to celebrate Saint Allan. You can make a clay tile, create a stuffed apple out of recycled materials or paint your own craft tree to take home – get creative and let your imagination run free!

Lantern Trail at Wheal Martyn Clay Works, St Austell

Sunday 8 December 2024

Enjoy an atmospheric lantern trail at Wheal Martyn. The trail will include lantern making, willow crafting, a campfire and marshmallows, followed by a lantern lit walk around the historic grounds finishing with a festive sing-song in the Wheal Martyn Cafe. 
The cafe will be open before and afterwards, serving festive treats and hot chocolate and pasties can be pre-booked on the Wheal Martyn website. The event is a collaboration between Wheal Martyn and Choose Nature CIC with proceeds from entry supporting fundraising for both organisations. 

Time: 3.00pm to 5.30pm
